My brother used to work for the Express. Whenever they are struggling for a saleable story for the front page of the paper they run one about extreme weather as people buy it in their droves.

Not sure whether this says more about the Express or the populace...

I can remember the snow in late 86 that Sold and Ted Fenton were on about.

I was about 8 and can remember making snowmen in our front garden in Maidstone and it not melting for fucking ages!!!

I had a flat in an old block in Whitechappel in the Early 80s. Went home to my parents for a couple of days at Christmas. When I got back the hallway was full of snow that had blown in under the gap on the front door. It was a hallway drift.

I remember our toilet not flushing and my dad getting in the loft to break the ice ! Scrapping the ice off the inside of the windows.
Harsh times indeed.
